What To Do In The First Hour After An Accident

Road accidents, falls and burns are the most common emergencies we receive. What happens before the patient reaches hospital matters as much as what we do afterwards: bleeding that is controlled early, a spine that is not twisted during the lift, and a phone call that lets the theatre prepare.

1. Make sure the scene is safe, then call

Switch on hazard lights and keep traffic away. Call +91 94153 32396 — our line is answered 24 hours and we can send an ambulance. Say what happened, roughly how old the person is, and whether they are awake.

2. Stop heavy bleeding

Press firmly on the wound with a clean cloth and keep pressing. Do not keep lifting the cloth to look. If it soaks through, add another on top.

3. Do not move a head or spine injury

After a blow to the head, a fall from height, or if the person cannot feel their legs, do not sit them up or carry them by the shoulders and knees. Support the head in line with the body and move them flat.

4. Keep them warm, and give nothing by mouth

Cover the person to prevent chilling. Do not give food or drink — they may need an operation.

5. Come straight to the emergency entrance

Narayan Hospital is on Fatima By-Pass Road near Khajanchi Chowk. No appointment is needed, and Ayushman Bharat cover is checked after treatment starts.
